As part of their creative and aesthetic development, all pupils from P1-P7 receive weekly music sessions which nurture skills whilst keeping the learning of music varied and fun. The primary school boasts an extremely well resourced music suite which features a good selection of instruments including percussion, acoustic guitars, bass guitars, keyboards, drumkit and piano. Pupils are encouraged to explore and use these instruments during class time along with other instruments which pupils may be learning with private tutors or instrumental staff who also regularly visit the school.
Over the course of each year, pupils will experience a variety of activities which includes vocal work, skill based sessions on instruments, creating and designing, musical theory and music appreciation. Interdisciplinary work often takes place through topic work and ICT activities are used regularly to enhance the pupil’s education. Audio and video recordings of class work are regularly made and shared with pupils.
The internet can be an excellent learning tool for music and a range of websites are used on a regular basis during both music and class sessions to allow pupils to extend their skills.
Primary music sessions are structured for continuity and are delivered by Mr Brown who also works in the secondary department of the school.
