Learning Resource Centre - Secondary

Opening hours: 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday (after school for Secondary pupils only). Closed Friday lunchtimes.

Staff: Mrs Philpott and Mrs Walker

The Learning Resource Centre (LRC)  supports the learning, teaching and information needs of the pupils and staff within the school by providing an appropriate range of good quality and relevant resources to support the curriculum. Reading for pleasure is promoted throughout the school and this is supported by an online Accelerated Reading programme (see www.renlearn.co.uk for further details). This is used by pupils from P3 to, at least S2. Parents can view their childrens reading on the Accelerated Reading Sceme by logging onto the Renaissance Home Connect facility by following this link: https://Ukhosted2.renlearn.co.uk/2149397/HomeConnect

Our extensive non-fiction section is further augmented by subscriptions to the safe research site -  World Book Online which can be used by pupils both at school and at home (User Name: auchterarder; Password: cloan)

The LRC has 20 computers which are available for use by secondary pupils at break, lunch and after school, as well as being used extensively during school time by teaching staff throughout the whole school for class activities which require computer use.

For our senior pupils, the LRC provides a quiet and comfortable place to study, read and use computers for school work.  There are copies of past papers and study guides available in most subjects for pupils to use whilst studying in the LRC.

The Careers section is also to be found within the LRC and the Skills Development Scotland Advisor attends one day per week to advise pupils about the opportunities available to them post-school. Appointments with SDS are arranged through the Guidance Department.
