On Sunday 12th March 2017, The Community School of Auchterarder Pipe Band took 2nd Prize in the 'Junior B' category of The Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships. This is a remarkable achievement for the band and congratulations and thanks go to all who have helped to nurture the band to this level. Staff and band members are incredibly proud of their success and wish to thank members of the community for their on-going support.
In 2011 the music department in association with D2 Percussion introduced the tuition of piping and drumming within both primary and secondary departments of the school. Since then the progress of pupils has been excellent and the project has gone from strength to strength. The band has appeared at a number of high profile events including the 2014 Ryder Cup and has twice taken part in The Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships. The band regularly performs at events in the community and proudly wears the Fraser Red Modern tartan.
Tuition for both piping and drumming takes place during the school day with Mr Greig Canning and Mr David Ross. Full band practise sessions take place after school on a Wednesday and are led by Mr Stuart Brown ,Teacher of Music, who oversees the development of the Pipe Band. All of the tutors have experience of playing at a high level and are actively involved with competition bands.
The repertoire of the band is constantly growing and is made up of a variety of tunes - traditional and new. For further information about the band or if you are a pupil interested in learning please contact the music department in person or by emailing: CSAMusic@pkc.gov.uk
